We’ll have stacks of fresh flatbread/naan from Ameera Bread and all the fixings – kebab, feta, hummus, fresh veg, dolmas, need we say more? The MLS 2016 Planning session happening on Monday, Nov. 30th, from 4-7 pm. While you do not have to attend the entire session, this time is designed to provide an update on where we have been and where we are going. Activites for 2016 include a Police Ride-A-Long, Cultural Conversations, and a High School Moot Court Competition.

Speeches for all SBA positions will be held today at 12:10 pm in the First Year Classroom.  Voting will take place immediately after the speeches and will close at 1:15 pm.  Pursuant to the SBA bylaws those elected will begin their term on January 11, 2016, the first day of spring semester

“The Role of Arbitration, Collective Bargaining and Judicial Review in DeflateGate” Panelists are Trevor Savage, Paul Greene (a sports lawyer at Global Sports Advocates), Linda McGill (an employment lawyer at Bernstein),  Mike Ryan (an arbitrator and mediator), and James Spizuoco.  Professor Diane Kenty will moderate the discussion and the Maine Sports Law Society is sponsoring the whole event. There will be pizza.

Brown Bag lunch with Katherine Joyce, Esq., Bernstein Shur Katherine Joyce is chair of the Energy and Environmental Practice Group at Bernstein Shur. She focuses her practice in environmental permitting and compliance, particularly as it pertains to power generation facilities, large-scale commercial development, real estate remediation, solid waste, water, and air pollution issues, including existing and developing regulation of GHGs. Kat represents clients in various matters involving federal and state agencies, including the Department of Energy, the Department of Justice, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

MASEL and SBA will be sponsoring a team to compete in the 2016 UVA Annual Law School Softball Tournament in Charlottesville, Virginia. The tournament will be held the first weekend of April, 2016.  This tournament is a great opportunity to network with law students from over 100 other law schools and get our school some national recognition! If you have interest in playing in that tournament, or just helping fundraise to get us there, please join MASEL. This is a co-ed tournament and softball experience is not required.  The team will be limited to a maximum of 15 participants.
